Pennyburn Regeneration Youth Development Enterprise in Kilwinning, North Ayrshire has been awarded £457,680. This project will create a community hub from a disused pub to provide a cafe, training kitchen, venue, a diary room, a learning suite and multimedia suite. The space has been designed to be multi-purpose to ensure it benefits the whole community.
Eileen Kerr from Pennyburn Regeneration Youth Development Enterprise said: “We are absolutely delighted with this award. The idea is to create a community hub, which will enable people to develop new skills, obtain information and advice and build community spirit in people of all ages. The project will provide a community café and space for people to meet and we expect hundreds of people to use it in the first year alone. We’ll be helping to improve life chances and also provide job prospects for locals, by developing the community resource as a sustainable social enterprise.”
Donald Reid chair of the project added "this is a major chunk of our funding now secured, we will now be working with our other funders to secure the remaining monies to take the project forward."
