Forces fundraiser with Honeys for Heroes at Kilwinning campus
Students are hoping to raise £1,000 for the Armed Forces by hosting a live music and fashion extravaganza at James Watt College’s Kilwinning campus.
The Fashion 4 Fighters event will be attended by Honeys for Heroes, an elite modelling team who aim to raise the morale of our troops at home and abroad and raise funds for a variety of UK Armed Forces charities, including Help For Heroes.
The event, which is being held on Thursday, March 1, is being organised by seven HND Administration and Information Technology students - Wendy Parker, Lorna Carey, June Northcote, Alana Black, Natalie Treverton, Whitney Coe and Sandra Thompson - as part of a final year project.
There will be live music from local musicians Sean Kennedy, Amy Howe, Chris Suckle from coverband Superfly and an appearance from Haggis the Piper. There will also be a fashion show from local designer boutique The Dressing Room, with Honeys for Heroes modelling some of the new spring collection.
Student June Northcote said: “This will be a fun-filled evening of live music and fashion, with various fashion and beauty merchandising stalls and some fantastic raffle prizes to be won.
"We are hoping for a great turnout on the night; every penny of the ticket money raised will go directly to the Honeys for Heroes charity so please come along on the night and support this worthwhile cause.
“We have involved other students from around the college in helping with the event, including design students who helped us with our promotional literature and hairdressing and make-up artist students who will be using their skills on the evening for the catwalk show.”
Her classmate, Wendy Parker added: “We are delighted that the Honeys for Heroes models are attending on the night and the armed forces will also have a supportive presence.
"Our fundraising target is £1,000 which we are hoping to reach between ticket sales and raffles, and the Dressing Room has kindly offered to give us 15% commission on all sales on the evening."
The event will run between 5.30pm and 8.30pm and tickets are priced at £3 and can be purchased in the college hub or in the Dressing Room in Saltcoats. Tickets can also be bought on the door on the night between 5pm and 5.30pm.
