Wilsons Canning Factory, The Stables, Eglinton Park

by Sarah Stokes

Hello

I am researching The Stables at Eglinton Park for my degree and wondered if anyone had any memories of the Stables. I know Clement Wilson did a lot of good work renovating the gardens around it. If you can help at all, please email me.

thanks

I am the Archivist at Eglinton Country Park - let me know what it is you would like to know. We have old photographs etc - have a look at the many Eglinton websites and click the Wikimedia links as well.

Hi Roger. thanks for getting back. I can't see how I can email you privately. Is there a link? Tried clicking on your name but to no avail! I am writing a Statement of Significance of the building and also going on to write a plan of action regarding what should be done with the building (I know about the housing development). Then defending proposed action in terms of statement of significance and obligations deriving from it.

My proposals are for are more social use eg. conference/wedding venue to generate income, Riding for the Disabled, classroom facilities and new visitor centre. Plus central office space for council staff involved with outdoor leisure.

I also wanted to get some first hand memories of the building and as Wilson seemed to be interested in preserving the grounds, I wondered if any old staff may have memories of that.

I have been over to the visitors centre. Is there anything else that you have? Thanks

Hello Sarah,

I am just back from holiday - you can contact me at Eglinton (01294-551776) or through the Wikipedia articles that are mostly my work and have an email link. We can meet up for a chat. We have some photographs and a few historical details, etc.

I was wondering if you are already aware that Kilwinning already has a Riding for the Disabled Group only a few miles from Eglinton Park?

Have your say...

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
