YUC - Youth Under Cunstruction

In 2001 Cornerstone Church set up the "Youth Under Construction" group as a new initiative aimed for young people from the Kilwinning and surrounding areas between the ages of 12-18.

Over the past 7 years, Youth Under Construction has continually proven itself to be one of the most cutting edge youth outreach groups in Ayrshire. To date well over 1,000 teenagers have attended the YUC events and activities. YUC offers young people a wide range of opportunities including:

After School Activities

YUC After School runs every Friday during school term time from 3.30pm-6pm. During this time we provide:-
Free healthy snacks and juice
Free internet access
Volunteers available to offer homework support
Recreational sports - badminton; volleyball; basketball
Computer games consoles and other recreational arts and crafts games and activities.

During the course of the year YUC After School also offers a wide range of creative arts workshops . This year we have offered workshops in:
Drama
Dance
Arts & Crafts
Music
Video Production
Digital Photography


We will also be running a 5 day Filmschool during the summer holidays, as well as organising a series of exciting trips through the year:
Theatre
Rock Climbing
Snowboarding at Xscape
Go-Carting
Laser Quest

YUC Gig Nights

Gig nights are held once a month on Tuesday evenings and offer local young bands and musicians a regular live venue to perform in front of young people their own age. Enclosed is a Gig night flyer for more information. YUC has been partnering with the Kilwinning Explorer Scouts group to help make these local events happen.

I have just read this entry and am delighted that a church is providing such help and facilities to our young people. This is a far more positive attitude than simply criticising them for getting into mischief without bothering to look at the reasons, far less offering suitable alternatives.
